Newton County Schools are under the Newton County School District. The 20 schools located in the County also serve the five municipalities located within the county. The schools are divided into twelve elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools, and one alternative school. More than17, 770 students are enrolled in Newton County. All the schools in Newton County offer programs in academics, athletics, the arts and extra-curricular activities. They are also recognized at the state and national level for excellence in academics, athletics, the arts and extra-curricular activities.

Oak Hill Elementary School holds classrooms from PK- 5th grade and has a total of 878 students. One hundred and forty three students attend Kindergarten; One hundred and sixty five students attend the 1st grade; One hundred and twenty six students attend the 2nd grade; One hundred and thirty seven students attend the 3rd grade; One hundred and twenty three students attend the 4th grade; One hundred and forty four students attend the 5th grade. This Elementary School has approximately 52 teachers with a Student Ratio of 1:17. Oak Hill Elementary School student ethnic background is as follows: Hispanic 4%, Black 27%, and White 68%.

Veterans Memorial Middle School has approximately 981 students attending grades 6th – 8th. This Middle School has a total of 59 teachers with a Student Ratio 1:17. Three hundred and twenty seven students attend the 6th grade; Three hundred and twenty one students attend the 7thgrade; Three hundred and thirty three students attend the 8th grade. Veterans Memorial Middle School has the following ethnic background: American Indian 1%, Hispanic 3%, Black 40%, and White 56%.

Newton High School holds classrooms in grades 9th - 12th. Approximately 123 teachers teach the schools curriculum to 2337 students. Eight hundred and thirty eight students attend the 9 th grade; Six hundred and ninety seven students attend the 10 th grade; Four hundred and thirty seven attend the 11 th grade; Three hundred and sixty five students attend the 12 th grade. Newton High School has a Teacher Student Ratio of 1:19 and has the following ethnic background: American Indian 1%, Asian 1%, Hispanic 2%, Black 45%, Black 45%, and White 51%.
